I paint space. Space is not as far away as we once thought. It is in everything around us and within us. Everything carries the potential and power of space.
Art is born from the experience of destruction.
Concept
Kateryna Stepanova works with space as a visual metaphor for human power, inner scale and the refusal of imposed limits. Her paintings are born from personal experience of overcoming drug addiction, severe illness and disability, and surviving during wartime. From the experience of crossing boundaries that, for most people, become a limit or an end.
